12 Insanely Stressful Gaming Moments You'll Never Play Again

12. Thinking You're Hidden... - Alien Isolation

A relatively new one this, but Creative Assembly's work on the Alien franchise firstly brought about one of the most intense and downright fantastic Alien games in the history of the medium - whilst also making sure the Xenomorph's A.I. could grab n' stab you within a moment's notice. You see, even though the game is essentially an elaborate game of cat n' mouse, the developers really didn't want you getting too comfortable, hence multiple points in the campaign where even though the alien has wandered away from your position (that being you nestled into a filing cabinet somewhere) you'll suddenly get the animation of being killed regardless of your level of visibility. This, coupled with a save system that takes a good five seconds to activate (a lifetime when you're being pursued) makes for a game you'll incrementally complete - getting skewered every so often just 'for the lols' with each subsequent level being reconciled to your 'been there, done that, never again' pile forevermore.
