12 Insanely Stressful Gaming Moments You'll Never Play Again
8. The Underwater Level - Sonic The Hedgehog
Something a little lighter as a palette cleanser amongst all the eyeball-squishing and police brutality - although Sonic's Labyrinth Zone is still a total stinker thanks to a reliance on suffocating one of the fastest creatures in gaming by forcing you to collect air bubbles along the way. It's like some bizarre execution on the developers trying to think of some way to impede your progress - how else do you introduce challenge in a game predicated on hurtling through the levels as the perfect embodiment of Sonic's 'Blue Blur' nickname? "Just stick him underwater, that'll slow him down". Yeah thanks for that, now alongside the fact you're about to cark it within seconds, you have to contend with the overly floaty underwater controls, spikes and enemies who are moving just as freely as on land. Maybe there's a very good reason Sonic died off after all.
