9. The Name Itself Has Three Meanings
As well as referring to Solid Snake himself and being the first 'solid' Metal Gear game in 3D, Kojima noted in an interview with Gamers Today that with Konami going up against the might of RPG behemoth Square, 'Solid' is a playful dig at their company name.
"A square is a two-dimension thing [and] I guess the President of Konami wanted this game to surpass Square. They wanted to make it a cube, you know, like solid 3D. So it's got that meaning. too."
