12 Most Bizarre Boss Battles In Video Game History
8. Gill - Street Fighter III
For a game that's known for its colours, explosions and eccentricity, Street Fighter has always been relatively grounded when it came to the characters themselves. The vast majority of them are pleasingly understated, but not in a way that's prevented them becoming some of the biggest video game icons ever. Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken, Bison et al, we salute you. Someone who definitely doesn't deserve a salute is Gill, the short-lived main antagonist in the Street Fighter series for all of one game. Apparently, his horribly clashing red-and-blue flesh was designed to show off the graphical power of the arcade cabinet that Street Fighter III was first released on. That was pretty short-term thinking on Capcom's part, because these days no one's thinking 'my, aren't those colours so vibrant'. They're thinking that Capcom must've stumbled upon the idea for Gill when rummaging through a wastebin of rejected wannabe Marvel superheroes drawn up by children. Though it's not likely that a child would place such emphasis on Gill's crotch, which shows off way more of his package than anyone wants to see. The sparse genital cover was also designed to show off his red-blue hues (which no one wants to look at anyway!). Also, Gill, get a haircut, because this isn't the 80s and you're not in a glam metal band. Suffice to say Gill didn't stick around for long, and Bison's hegemony as the villain of the Street Fighter series was soon re-established. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5VMrKjgIfw
