12 Most Disturbing Gaming Boss Battles Of All Time

9. Granfaloon: Castlevania - Symphony Of The Night

The One Reborn Bloodborne

Like Resident Evil, the Castlevania series has a long and proud history of dredging up horrific bosses for players to tangle with. There were numerous options here, but let's stick with one entry per game/series. Here's one of Castlevania’s most ghastly offerings of all: Granfaloon (also known as Legion).

This monster appears in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, encountered by Alucard in the Catacombs. It’s a huge, fleshy mass composed of victims of human sacrifices; not the kind of amalgamation of bodies you’d want to bring home to meet your mother (however aloof she may be about the people/hideous undead creatures you date).

It gets even worse, too: those bodies just form a sort of outer shell for the creature within. As Alucard attacks and damages it, parts of it will break away, until the tentacle beast beneath is revealed. Before that, though, it’ll rain bodies down upon our dashing hero which will march towards him like zombies. Throw in the awful shrieks of the creature and the arena itself (which is just a great mound of skulls) and you've got a recipe for pure nightmare fuel.
