Arguably the best thing about MGS V is the sheer wealth of options you have when deciding how to tackle a mission, and though a lot of the objectives are disappointingly samey, it's in choosing how to approach a given goal that the game's ridiculous variety becomes apparent. Are you going to snipe the target? Use a bombardment? Tranq the entire base and fulton everything in sight? Replaying missions is terrifically entertaining, especially as you begin to amass a more impressive arsenal of gadgets and weapons later in the game, and hoovering up even more GMP as you go is disgustingly addictive. Though the story did feel fairly lacking in MGS V and replaying missions will likely only enhance that feeling, The Phantom Pain is a prime example of gameplay helping to craft its own narrative. With the insane freedom the player has to weave their own unique mid-mission scenarios, it's hard to feel that mad about the toned down storytelling.
