12 Nintendo Franchises That Could Be Adapted Into Movies

12. Super Mario Bros.

It might seem crazy to suggest that it would be a good idea to produce a remake of the film that effectively halted Nintendo's interest in creating movies from its franchises, but there is no bigger icon in the Nintendo canon than Mario. What better way to re-announce your brand to the world than with a far superior reimagining of a film that has been unanimously condemned? A new film of SMB would undoubtedly work better as an animation, as would many of the options on this list. The woeful humour of the original film was only made worse by the fact that Mario just doesn't work in live action. The concept of a mushroom-consuming Italian plumber jumping on giant tortoises and fighting a huge spiny dragon-turtle-thing just isn't likely to cut it outside of animation. It would be a brave move by Nintendo to return to films with a SMB remake, but it wouldn't be a huge surprise. Casting Suggestion: Why not make SMB appeal to an older audience and have De Niro and Pacino play Mario and Luigi? De Niro has already played an air conditioning specialist in Brazil... Surely a plumber isn't that much of a leap? Likelihood: 8/10 Desirability: 9/10
