12 Pointless Video Game Details (That Will Blow Your Mind)
4. Arthur Morgan's Ears - Red Dead Redemption 2
What do you do when you've got access to millions upon millions of dollars in cash; a total that only seems to duplicate with each passing year?
Well, if you're Rockstar, you set about crafting one of the most hyper-detailed video games of all time. Practically "VR without a headset", play Red Dead Redemption 2 for any length of time and you'll pick up on everything from clothing wear and tear to real-time facial hair growth, trails left from boots in the mud to merchants getting wooden legs if you shot them a week before.
In a race to find the most insanely TINY detail though, I present to you the subsurface scattering of light through the most inconsequential of objects. Namely, how ears in Red Dead 2 glow red when backed by a light source.
The same technique can be seen in Naughty Dog's more recent Uncharted titles, 4 and Lost Legacy too, both showcasing a level of technical craft that's honestly just showing off at this point.
