12 Things You Didn't Know About The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
11. Inspired By Twin Peaks
Zelda games have often found inspiration from unexpected places. Breath of the Wild looked to Skyrim for inspiration with its open-world and BOTW2 is now looking towards Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2. Decades previously though, Ocarina Of Time found influence away from gaming.
Speaking in a different 3DS release interview, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed the world was inspired by David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. More specifically, this focused on the role of Ocarina’s background characters and their interactions with Link, stating “What's important is what role that person plays and how they contribute to portraying the main character.”
Many worlds often get bogged down by focusing on individual narratives, so it makes sense to approach development this way and its clear that follow up game Majora’s Mask took that concept further.
