12 Video Game Bosses That Were A Total Letdown

3. The Dark Presence - Alan Wake

Even though Alan Wake is tagged as an "action-adventure title," Remedy Entertainment's episodic thriller defies genre. Every aspect is dripping in innovation and creation, whether it's the gameplay, the story, or the mechanics.

So, when the titular protagonist is about to contend against The Dark Presence during the climax, players were hyped beyond measure. After all, the malevolent force repeatedly showcased its powers of omnipresence, invincibility, teleportation, possession, influence touch, and bird control (which is way scarier than it sounds). Since The Presence is practically a god, why would this showdown be anything except spectacular?

Sadly, the encounter is not the be-all-and-end-all we were all hoping for. Despite the fact TDP appeared to have unlimited power throughout the main campaign, his only means of attack in this battle is throwing garbage and... throwing more garbage.

Also, The Presence is stationary, so attacking him is like shooting fish in a barrel. Though this cosmic entity has reshaped reality to destroy Wake's way of life, The Dark Presence calls it a day after being blasted a couple of times.

The fight may be cinematic, but it's all over before you know it.
