4. Watch Dogs

Next to Aliens: Colonial Marines, Watch Dogs is the epitome of a game riling up the entire populace after years of misleading marketing materials.

Case in point: The graphics. Whilst gameplay mostly had delusions of grandeur when it came to a version of Chicago you could hack in multiple ways (or so we thought), graphics were shown off as having dynamic lighting and far better texture work, with what looked to be playable set-piece moments happening dynamically.

Come launch and it was what's become the 'same old story'. Ubisoft stated they hadn't downgraded the game - only for PC owners to mine the disc and find a way to restore how it looked from the previous years - and as for those set-pieces you wanted to do? They amounted to holding a button every half hour or so and maybe triggering something memorable.

The next generation had truly started...
