4. Metal Gear Solid
While many gamers applaud Metal Gear Solid for its ground-breaking level of narrative complexity and thematic scope, to me it carried the distinct whiff of a frustrated auteur who wouldve much rather just gone and shot a movie. Saying that, on the basis of this game, it probably wouldve been a really
bad movie. As super-spy Solid Snake (
snigger), you are tasked with infiltrating a military base overrun by mutinous troops lead by an elite team of special operatives, all of whom are fond of giving really long speeches at the point of death. Throw in some cod-philosophical nonsense about genetic destiny and another extremely daft villain-revealed moment and youve got yourself a big fat, pseudo-cinematic turkey.
