13 More Horror Themed Video Games To Play On Halloween

9. Zombies Ate My Neighbors

If your main condition for a great Halloween game is that it be fun then do we have a game for you. Zombies Ate My Neighbors was released for the SNES in 1993 and has remained one of the best horror games since. It's essentially a run-and-gun game that sees you take control of one of two characters in single or two-player mode. You start out gunning zombies with your squirt gun but will eventually come across every monster to ever grace the big screen.

The game is pretty silly as you save ignorant townsfolk from an army of ghoulish threats but in this case silly equates to fun. There are a vast amount of levels to complete and if you're looking for a real challenge you can do your best to save every person and collect every item before moving on to the next level. The graphics are quite good for an SNES game and the sound is amazing. The music can't compare to that of Silent Hill but is fun and frightening in its own way. The song that plays in the hedgemaze level implies a sense of impending doom as chainsaw wielding maniacs hunt you down.

You'll come across werewolves, vampires, killer dolls, and even aliens bent on kidnapping cheerleaders in one of the greatest games ever. Be sure to equip enough sodas and popsicles - to fight with, we mean - and get ready for a horror experience like none other. If you can't break down and pull out the old SNES or have trouble finding a copy of the game have no fear. Zombies Ate My Neighbors was released for the Wii's Virtual Console and can be yours this Halloween and each thereafter.
