13 Massively Hyped Upcoming Video Games That Will Totally Disappoint
12. Detroit: Become Human
Release Date: TBA 2018
The Hype: Detroit: Become Human is the latest game from Quantic Dream and video game "auteur" David Cage, who has promised another provocative evolution of the "interactive drama" genre he has pioneered with titles such as Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.
A character-driven sci-fi thriller set in Detroit, the game features a branching narrative in which the player must make split-second choices, and in the event that characters die, they will stay dead for the rest of the game. Above all else, it looks absolutely gorgeous.
Why It'll Disappoint: Though all of Cage's interactive dramas have been technical masterpieces and narratively intriguing, each has ultimately been derailed by Cage's preference for silly plot twists that make no sense.
Considering that his last three games all went wildly off the rails in the final stretch, it's hard to believe that Cage will finally stick the landing this time. Expect the game to be praised for its visuals and maybe even its performances, but torn apart for a plot that takes a braindead leap off the deep end.
