13 Video Games That Are Even More Frustrating Than Flappy Bird
4. Shinobi
One of Sega's trademark titles, the original Shinobi and virtually all of its sequels/spin-offs/reboots (there is very little continuity and canon material is ambiguous) revolve around Joe Musashi or relatives of his, with most of the games taking the shape of a 2D or 2.5D side-scroller. A refreshing blast from the past, most of the Shinobi games task the player with taking down various kinds of enemies over the course of several large levels, usually ending with a special type of boss enemy that is a culmination of the other enemies in the level. While later titles, such as Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master had much smoother gameplay and overall difficulty, the frustration comes in the form of general level layout and certain enemies and bosses. For example, in Shinobi III, at one point the player must navigate Joe through a surfing sequence, which culminates with a large mech that is fairly easy to beat (just jump on it). However, after another harrowing experience, it's back on the waves against the same robot from before, except this time it is stronger, faster, and overall more difficult. Of course you could argue that's the entire point, however, when the only two attacks you have are jumping on it and throwing shurikens, which are both blocked with ease, you are in for a long battle that takes a large amount of time. These scenarios happen often, with a variety of boss and generic enemies.
