Cellphones exist in countries that don't have computers. You can play the game with one finger. If it wasn't free, Angry Birds never sold for more than a dollar. If these factors are the set-up volleys, Angry Birds' highly addictive gameplay is the spike. It has spawned a ridiculous list of spin-offs and re-skins. Theme parks have been built and there are more to come. Angry Birds' business model has functioned as the gaming equivalent of going viral on Youtube.
