Way before Rocksteady were even considered for development duties, it was Mercenaries/Full Spectrum Warrior-chaps Pandemic who were on course to create a game that would directly tie in to 2008's The Dark Knight.

Very little is know about this project other than Pandemic planning to use the same game engine that would later appear in The Saboteur - and that it would be open world - but EA's pressurised deadlines followed by the developer's bankruptcy ended the whole thing.

From there it was handed over to Rocksteady, who managed to tap into the established Nolan-style spirit of the Bat whilst producing their own phenomenal take on the mythos along the way.
