14 Mind-Blowing Video Game Fan Theories That Change Everything

5. You're The Villain, The Spider Is Protecting Its World - Limbo

With the newly-released Inside, developer Playdead have established themselves with signature macabre style, yet 2010's Limbo was the first to truly walk the grey line between light and dark.

Who are you? Why are you travelling through this shadow-puppet world of silhouettes and monsters?

The game actually ends with you finding a character people have assumed is the young boy's sister, but what if she was actually trying to flee from you?

Think about it: Nothing in the game establishes you as any sort of hero, instead quite the opposite. The large spider that you tackle as a 'boss' could easily be a protector of the realm itself, and the various other children/beings you come across all flee at the very sight of you.

What if your journey through this world is simply one of anger and lashing out, internalised after causing the death of said sister? We can see two fly-covered graves on the main menu, too, so whatever happened to the boy and girl before they ended up in this place was definitely not pleasant.
