5. Super Mario Odyssey

Possibly the most radical and flat-out weird direction Mario's ever gone in - and he's gone in a LOT - Super Mario Odyssey is taking the portly plumber to New Donk City, where for the first time he'll be able to mingle with real-life humans/giants, taxis, skyscrapers, streetlights and more.

Thankfully, the rest of Super Mario Odyssey is more of the sorts of high-contrast, loveable worlds you've come to expect, with the game itself being exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

So far, the only new gameplay mechanic we've seen is Mario's hat being thrown, recalled and jumped upon to reach higher places, though with Nintendo's pure skill at level design, that always leads to more incredibly fun platforming.
