12. Metroid Prime: Federation Force
What is it with creatives and chasing the nebulous 'wider market' demographic? In music it means more synthesised instrumentation, film it's more explosions and forced humour (Star Trek Beyond, anyone?) and in gaming, crowbarred-in shooting mechanics.
Naturally, Federation Force's template was set in motion by the divisive Metroid Prime, an admittedly stellar FPS that saw Nintendo chase the 'Halo money', only for Other M to hint at a return to the likes of Super Metroid's 2D staples... and now Federation Force is going full-on online co-op shooter.
Because of course it is.
At the end of the day, it's Nintendo, a tried n' true formula and a world beloved by millions - it'll be fineat the very worst. But for all of us hoping for another 'proper' Metroid, well, we'll just have to keep those fingers crossed.
