10. Destiny
What Works?
There is one thing - and one thing only - that saved Destiny from being a full-on point n' laugh write-off: The shooting.
If Bungie hadn't nailed the feeling of blasting an alien's head apart or unloading a full rifle clip into your fellow gamer, I truly believe there'd never have been a Destiny 2.
Thankfully, shooting guns in Destiny feels immaculate, with Bungie applying all their knowledge of Halo's various weapon feels to craft something that just worked. Story, purpose, amount of planets and crap voice work be damned - Bungie ensured the servers were stable, and put the focus on buddying up to wipe out the demonic hordes as one.
It worked.
What Doesn't?
Literally everything else.
We all know the story at this point, but for those unfamiliar with what it felt like at launch, there was a staggering amount of content simply omitted. Staple things you'd expect like introductions to factions and characters that you were told meant something just didn't come together, all the while the game thundered ahead with an overwhelming amount of terminology you had to visit Bungie's website to understand.
In time, we'd come to understand Destiny's fractured state was a result of Bungie's higher-ups canning the game's story mere months before launch, leaving a game that yes, played extremely well, but had a bizarrely empty, truly sterile feel that put millions off.
