10. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl - The Death Hump
Some of you might recognize this creature as the Snork from the titular game series, and will know that they aren't to be messed with. While all of the enemies have a rather unique way of dealing with the player, the Snorks slowly and silently scuttle around, waiting to get a drop on you, and once you're in the vicinity, they leap towards you and attack with powerful legs and fangs. Their impact relies on surprise, and there's a good chance that this image is the last thing you'll ever see as a Snork attacks, given how much damage they deal in their quest to eat your entire face off.
9. Dead Space - Nope All The Way
How many times have you been genuinely scared by the first Dead Space? There have to have been at least half a dozen of such moments, and one of them was probably the first encounter with this creature. A huge brute in his own right, this is one of the most alarmingly scary Necromorphs ever seen. One of the great things about this "boss" creature is that it actually has yellow blobs of pus in places where the player has to cut, just as the usual bosses do. However, the implementation is clever, as these yellowish places do not glow or have any other non-immersive element showing you where to shoot. As hard as it is to actually defeat this, the quick-time events are the most pants-wetting moments you get to fight it. The screenshot basically tells you everything there is to know. There are no warnings and no helpful tips as to how to escape from it. You have to figure that stuff out by yourself, and it's pretty hard to do so when this thing is clawing its way to you.
