12. Cave Story: Curly's Secret Game Mode

Originally a freeware indie game that was in development for half a decade, Cave Story went on to be a cult hit with audiences all across the gaming landscape. There have been so many ports of the game that you can even play it on a TI Graphing Calculator. Despite all this, I've never actually played it so I apologize for not going into detail about the game's characters and story. This game makes the list for a seemingly unimportant Easter Egg that eventually ended up adding all new content. In the original freeware version if the game you could find a secret passage in Curly's house. Traveling through pitch black corridors would eventually lead you to an unseen item. When you picked it up, you would get Curly's Panties. They did nothing and just sat in your inventory space the rest of the game. When Cave Story was ported to consoles however, the panties had a much greater effect. If you managed to find them you would unlock a whole new game mode where you could play through as the character Curly.
