13. Doubling Down On Gimmicks
E3 2018 was another year of gimmicky tripe and, given the past decade of E3, shows the fact that regardless of viewer feedback and responses, companies will still go for the bombastic and cringey attempts to sell their product.
We had the usual Just Dance shtick, a heavy metal band at the beginning of Bethesda, several music breaks in Sony, and a motorbike stunt fall in Ubisoft. Sure, it breaks up the reveals and can sometimes be entertaining, but for a game conference they often come off as forced.
So everyone that was holding out hope for the industry to come to their senses and ditch the marketing ploys and showy flair, apologies. It looks like they are here to stay.
