It might sound simple, but it would surprise you just how many new players don’t realise that in naval combat it’s paramount to aim below the waterline of the opposing ship.

To sink a ship, you need to fill it with water; and the most effective way to fill a ship with water is to punch holes in their hull below the waterline. The more you hit the same spot before it’s repaired, the bigger the hole will be and the more water will pour in.

When fighting sloops and brigs, hitting anywhere on the hull will get the job done (though holes at the back will fill up these ships slower). It’s when coming up against galleons where this tip is you key to victory.

Since galleons have two lower decks, you could hit all your shots on the top or middle decks without doing any real damage to the ship. You’ll need to knock a few holes in the lower deck to fill it with water first Only then will the middle deck holes be of any use.

Introduce a Ballastball into the mix and it'll be a quick fight.
