15 Best Disney Video Games

1. Kingdom Hearts

Legend has it that a chance meeting in an elevator between Square Enix legend Shinji Hashimoto and a Disney head honcho was the catalyst for bringing this unique game to life.

Whatever transpired, the result was something quite unlike any other experience that came before it.

Mixing up characters from Disney and Final Fantasy past and present, Kingdom Hearts is an action role-playing adventure packed with character and, as saccharine as this sounds, lots of heart. Taking control of young pup Sora (all spiky hair and spirit, an unashamed cardboard cut-out Final Fantasy figure) the aim is to find his lost friends, which understandably takes him on a world-spanning mission.

But he’s not alone.

Like those chirpy teammates we’ve grown used to in the Final Fantasy games of old, Sora has able support in the form of a bunch of Disney characters. Starting with Donald and Goofy by his side, the likes of Jack Skellington, Aladdin and Tarzan make appearances, to name but a few.

Throw in some Guardian Force-esque summons to make the hack and hope battle system more interesting – try dropping Dumbo on a gaggle of soldiers and see what damage he does – as well as the rail gun fun of controlling the Gummi Ship, and you have a title that continues to recruit legions of fans some fifteen years after its release. A worthy number one.

Like any good Disney feature, this one had a happy ending… or so we hope. If you think different, or deem it to be bonkers that The Jungle Book wasn’t included, then get commenting below.
