Whilst you can't exactly call Super Mario 64 a scary game, Big Boo's Haunt definitely scared a lot of kids. Yeah, it's not going to scare you if you're over the age of 12, but that doesn't mean the mansion can't be appreciated as a level with a great spooky aesthetic.

It's one of the more interesting levels to explore, featuring a nice balance of combat, puzzle-solving, and platforming.

The combat comes in the form of fighting Boos. You're going to need to master your ghost hunting techniques if you want to get the stars for beating the Boos and the Big Boos.

The puzzle-solving aspect lends a sense of mystery to the mansion that isn’t found anywhere else in the game. Also, since the level gates off sections, it keeps the mystery of the mansion alive for quite a long time. You'll have to unlock the second floor yourself and if you want to explore some secret parts of the level you're going to need the Vanish Cap. You can’t explore it all right at the beginning.

As mentioned earlier, platforming is also a big deal here. If you haven't mastered your platforming you won't be able to explore the roof-top which requires some tricky jumps to get to.
