15 Best Horror Video Games Of The 2000s

12. Dead Rising

Dead Rising drops you into a colossal mall, crawling with droves of the undead and gives you the run of the place for three days. That's 72 hours of unadulterated zombie-killing mayhem with access to weapons of every shape, size and caliber, ranging from chainsaws, katanas and semi-automatics to guitars, bowling balls and plushies (I have no idea how those cute little things are supposed to kill anything, but it's funny). It's basically a playable Dawn Of The Dead, a concept so foolproof you have to wonder why nobody's tried it before. It's the kind of experience drinking games are made of (take a swig for every three zombies you slice up and you'll be plastered faster than you can say 'hair of the dog'), and with dozens upon dozens of time-specific missions spread across 72 hours, Dead Rising is eminently replayable. Blowing away hordes of flesh-mongering rotters with a Mega Buster? Good God, how was this not a thing before?
