When Nintendo randomly included Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy in one of their Switch livestreams, I leapt off my chair.

Yes, it's shameless nostalgia pandering, but where you could play this on Xbox One through backwards compatibility, one of the title's best features - its iconic multiplayer - was firmly shut off.

Enter the re-release of Jedi Academy on Switch and PS4, and it's 2003 all over again.

Despite the fact this is still a mighty fine Star Wars game - one where you create a Jedi across multiple species and unlock everything from slow-motion pirouettes to Force Lightning - it now has functional SUPER fast multiplayer for all to enjoy.

Jedi Academy is some old-school arena-type FPS fun. Designed on the iD Tech 3 engine, you've essentially got Quake III - a legendary game in its own right - but now an acrobatic six-way lightsaber duel can break out at any moment.

And break out, it will.

So many younger players won't have experienced a multiplayer like this, and it is just essential.
