15 Best Video Game Platformers Ever
6. Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic The Hedgehog is synonymous with the world of platform games, so it might seem a little strange for him to feature as low as sixth. However, while the blue hedgehog made a massive splash when he first appeared, he hadn’t really kicked on from there.
Though the very first Sonic game remains the most iconic, with Green Hill Zone in particular becoming part of the zeitgeist, the second game just edges it for quality. The fact Green Hill Zone has been recreated in some form in most of the modern games has only aided the memorability of the first one too.
The sequel though was longer, more innovative in level design and introduced Tails to the series. It also introduced the standard features of being able to recover rings after being hit and the 100 ring power boost.
More recent games like Sonic Forces may have more going on than the original side scrollers, but they’re too flawed, short and repetitive to really challenge for inclusion here. Sad to say, Sonic’s best games these days are when he teams up with Mario for the Olympics.
