15 Best Video Game Platformers Ever

1. Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped

The bonkers Bandicoot is the only one to best Mario with his 1998 instalment, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. It took everything that worked from the first two games, threw out the stuff that didn’t and just went wild with the in between.

Riding a tiger cub on the Great Wall If China? Check. Invading Egyptian tombs? Check. Shooting down blimps from biplanes? Check. Racing aliens on a motorbike? Believe it or not, check.

Warped is easily the tightest game Crash has ever put out. The only levels which really come in for criticism are Hot Cocoa and Rings Of Power, and even then that’s only for difficulty. As the final two levels you unlock, they’re supposed to be controller breakingly hard anyway.

There’s just so much variety in Warped, all played at Crash’s typical breakneck speed. So many themes and different play styles, you need a lot of skills to master this and you’ll never get bored. The bosses are the best the series has ever offered too. A near perfect game.

It’s a shame the series fell off a cliff afterwards. Hopefully with the N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled, the series can relaunch itself.
