15 Best Video Game Platformers Ever

14. Banjo-Kazooie

Banjo-Kazooie released during the ‘90s platformer boom, sitting alongside Mario for Nintendo while Crash & Spyro became PlayStation icons. It never felt out of place amongst them, though now the dust has settled, it does feel a little off their pace when their best efforts are compared.

That’s not to say that Banjo-Kazooie isn’t a great game though, it’s just that that’s all it is. While the other three have ascended to legendary status (although Mario was already there), Banjo-Kazooie has remained just a good ‘90s game.

The fervent reception of his addition to Super Smash Bros does prove that the characters still have massive popularity though, so we could see a revival in the near future.

Though Super Mario 64 remains the go to N64 platformer, Banjo-Kazooie actually did a fair bit better than it at the time. Though Mario broke the mould for 3D platformers, Banjo had more texture, humour and attitude than the Italian plumber.

The lovely Disney feel of the comical soundtrack clashed fantastically with the funky characters to create a platformer for all ages. Though its day in the sun may be over, hopefully Banjo-Kazooie can rise again.
