Indie devs Klei Entertainment are one of the most gifted studios out there, consistently releasing visually-arresting games that command your eyeballs to pay attention through suitably gorgeous artwork and animation - only to bolster it with impeccable gameplay. Determined to reinvent themselves through every release, we've seen them go from side-scrolling hack n' slasher Shank, through a brilliant take on the stealth genre with Mark of the Ninja, and now with Invisible Inc. it's an XCOM-like turn-based approach to isometric levels - the twist being you play as a group of secret agents, rather than gun-happy military types. The game literally tells you upfront "You will die a lot", but thanks to the roguelike element of the design (where each death will open up new characters to play as), you'll forever get new items and abilities to deploy in the field - and when the levels are randomly generated anyway it's a Rogue Legacy-style "Just... one more go" feel that's indescribably enjoyable keeping you going. When the whole thing's brought to life through exquisite animation it really does lessen the anger you feel when losing one of your best agents in the field - but the real reason you should check this out is purely for its originality - a quality that's getting increasingly rare in today's industry.
