Along with the 'Souls games, Trials has managed to become the other arduously-hard franchise with enough instant appeal to cross over into the mainstream, establishing itself as something akin to gaming's equivalent of playing chicken. Of course there remains the core Trials contingent who upload tracks so complicated you'd need a degree from one of the highest universities known to man just comprehend the level of physics-based obstacle-clambering necessary to get through them, but the overall appeal of the game comes from the weighty physics and feeling that you've only yourself to blame when your rider once again kisses the pavement. Added this time around though is a brilliantly over-the-top trick system used in combo-tracking 'FMX Events' that sees the rider's weight mapped to the right stick, leading to some gloriously ridiculous programmed animations half-kicking in as your ragdoll-rider approaches the frames necessary to do something like a Superman. Sadly this system of scoring isn't carried over to the other races, but you're still free to bust out the elastic-limbed contortions just for bragging rights when catching some huge jumps.
