14. Baba Is You
It is very difficult to put into words what Baba Is You really is. It is a puzzle game unlike anything else available on the market. You start on world 1, map 1 - a very familiar set-up for anyone that has ever played a platformer, but the map is devoid of traps or even landscape. Instead, you have an objective and some text boxes.
The idea is that you re-arrange the text boxes, like lines of code, to access the winning flag. The first few levels introduce this concept with some small challenges.
Soon, however, the lines of code that you have to re-arrange start becoming dense and complex. What started as simple instructions start becoming vast streams of poetry and actions that glide together with a hypnotic harmony. This is all tied together with a charming pixel art aesthetic, simple controls and a rewind feature that lets you know as a player that the game wants you to solve its mysteries.
Baba Is You is a rewarding challenge. Behind each world is another unexplored corner begging to be unlocked, making you feel like a genius when you do.
