15 Crucial Questions For 2018's Biggest Video Games
9. Is It 2018's No Man's Sky? - Sea Of Thieves
The Question: Rare's pirate-themed action adventure title Sea of Thieves was first announced at E3 2015 on a tidal wave of hype, with the marketing focusing on player freedom and the thrill of being part of a pirate fleet with a team of buddies.
However, with the hype cooling over the last year-or-so, is it possible that the game's destined to become the next No Man's Sky: a promising title that buckles under its own hype and ultimately under-delivers?
The Likely Answer: Yes and no. Though Sea of Thieves is going to struggle to muster up the same impressive hype storm that No Man's Sky whipped up in the months before its release, Rare's continually vague communication about exactly what the game is doesn't inspire much confidence that it's going to live up to its enormous potential.
Perhaps this is in fact a case of Rare managing player expectations after the No Man's Sky debacle, but their keeping quiet about the game rather than clearly stating what it can and cannot do is undeniably frustrating, and could hurt sales in the long run.
