15 Essential Half-Life 2 Mods You MUST Play

2. GoldenEye: Source

For many gamers, GoldenEye on the N64 was a formative and definitive childhood experience. It proved that first-person shooters could work on console, not just as a single-player experience but split-screen multiplayer too.

Play that game now though and the cracks have started to show. The controls are rubbish, the gameplay is dated and the graphics are pretty rough. GoldenEye: Source addresses this, not just with some graphical polish but by creating a fully modernised experience.

The game is now a full-on arena shooter, expanded to cater for up to 16 players at once. The movement, the graphics, the gunplay and the soundtrack have all been completely overhauled and all of the original weapons and characters painstakingly recreated.

GoldenEye: Source is perfect for anyone who wants to re-live their childhood without going back to the original game (and perhaps ending up disappointed). For everyone else, it's just a fantastic, modern, arena shooter.
