14. MINERVA

MINERVA is an episodic series set in the Half-Life 2 universe. Playing as an unknown protagonist, you're tasked with infiltrating a Combine stronghold on a remote island location.

Throughout the game, you're heckled and cajoled by the eponymous "Minerva", a mysterious entity whose motives are unclear. The story is delivered through "Minerva's" radio broadcasts, displayed as text on the player's HUD.

MINERVA delivers an engaging story but it's the level design that really shines. The maps dive deep below the island's surface, cleverly twisting, turning and interconnecting as realistically as possible, an approach that earned creator Adam Foster a job at Valve.
