15 Games That MUST Be On The PlayStation Classic

2. Final Fantasy IX

Ps1 Classic Feat
Square-Enix

With golden boy Final Fantasy VII already in situ on the PlayStation Classic, Sony might be tempted to steer away from including a second game from Square-Enix's long-running series on their petite PlayStation. It'd be an act of gross enormity; not only is the ninth instalment Final Fantasy's finest, it's also perhaps the console's greatest game.

FFVII fanatics will cry blue murder, though it's the context more than anything that gives the perennial favourite its unearned crown. In every regard, the exploits of Zidane and his merry band surpass those of cardboard Cloud. Aesthetically, it's a triumph, eking out every last ounce of the PlayStation's potential. A translation into a language other than pidgin' English allows the narrative to not just actually make sense, but shine, whilst the combat system represents the perfect compromise between classes and customisation. It's a celebration of everything that makes Final Fantasy great - one of which isn't rabid fanboyism. It's why it's the best.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
