1. Publishers
EA. Activision. Ubisoft. With utter certainty, publishers are the worst thing about modern gaming. Nearly all of the grievances Ive mentioned are a result of the influence of publishers. They have gotten their hands on nearly every aspect of the video game industry, accumulating more power and forcing developers to abide by
ridiculously tight schedules and man hours. They may have initially been founded by their love of video games, but now they are run by businessmen who lack any passion for the industry, as all they see is green and
will do anything to get more out of it. They buy out the best developers only to ruin them (Bioware, Blizzard), implement consumer punishing piracy measures, cut portions out of games and sell them back as DLC, want to take away your right to sell your property, and just lack a general empathy for their consumer base. We understand that the video game industry is an industry of making money, as all are, but that doesnt mean you have to treat your consumers like cattle. Like anything, a balance is required. The problem is that publishers would rather make money the cheap and easy way than the right way: by providing consumers with legitimately good games through emphasis on innovation and creativity.
