15 Greatest Ever Video Game Anti-Heroes
10. Arthur Morgan - Red Dead Redemption 2
When it came to weighing up whether to include Arthur Morgan or John Marston in this list, it was a close call, but as John largely killed bandits and bad people in order to save his family, Arthur struck me more as the antihero of the two.
Set in the thriving West, but centring about the dying wild West, we follow Arthur Morgan and co as they aim to pull off one huge heist that will set them up for the rest of their lives. Having been chased out of Blackwater and losing all of their money, Arthur follows his charismatic leader Dutch Van der Linde as he leads their crew through various failed schemes and plots to make them some cash.
Whilst Dutch becomes more and more unhinged, money hungry and gains a lower regard for the well-being of others (including those in his very own gang), Arthur becomes more compassionate, regretting his evil actions and seeking forgiveness in some form.
The conflicting desires of his moral compass against the loyalty to his friends and family creative an incredibly moving character as we play out all of his highs and lows.
Should the player help guide Arthur to the redemption he seeks, then we will watch a gorgeous sunrise alongside a troubled soul that has finally been laid to rest. Truly one of the greatest antiheroes in video game history.
