15 Greatest Gaming Heroes Of The Last Generation

11. Captain John Price - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Captain Price Cod4 Whether or not Call of Duty has become overrated, mainstream or whatever else is neither here nor there. But there's one thing we can all agree on, the first Modern Warfare was absolutely fantastic. It was arguably the first seed sown in turning Call of Duty into what it has become today and while nobody really cares for the campaign in this type of game anymore, CoD 4 certainly had a great story. The characters in Soap MacTavish's SAS unit played no small part in the brilliance of this campaign, but Captain Price was the best. The grizzled old SAS commander was a good ally and mentor to Soap and when he supposedly died at the end of the campaign it was shocking and saddening, sliding his pistol over to Soap so that he could kill Zakhaev and finish the mission had a 'passing the torch' kind of significance. High Point For This Character: The infamous 'All Ghillied Up' mission set in the ruins of Chernobyl, widely regarded as the greatest FPS single mission of all time for the simple reason of the fear and tension it inspired. Hiding in the grass while a line of troops and a tank walk literally right over you had many a player's heart in their throat every time it was played, and it will be a long time before a single gaming moment will inspire that kind of tension and relief.
