15 Greatest Multiplayer Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)

9. Minecraft

A true phenomenon and one of the most successful video games of all time, Minecraft has only grown in popularity since its original release in 2011. Continuing to add and tweak its perfect world building gameplay, Minecraft mania swept the imagination of young gamers across the globe, for many acting as an introduction to the entire medium itself.

And although the multiplayer aspect of the game isn't exactly a huge departure from the experience you'd enjoy on your own, the title really comes alive when you're playing with friends. Because whether you're messing around trying to outdo one another or coming together to create an imaginative magnum opus you can share with everyone you know, your time in Minecraft is best spent when it's shared.

And with the additions that have been promised since Microsoft bought the rights a few years ago (remember that great - if potentially overpromising- HoloLens demo from a couple E3s ago?) it seems that multiplayer is the focus going forward for Minecraft.

Which is great, because friendships for life have been solidified within the game's brilliantly imaginative, lovably blocky world.
