15 'Horror' Video Games That Totally Failed To Scare Anyone

4. Alone In The Dark (2008)

The fifth instalment in the Alone in the Dark series, the game sees players take on the role of long time protagonist Edward Carnby, an amnesiac who wakes up in a burning apartment block and witnesses a series of demonic possessions. The game itself revolves around fighting enemies, solving puzzles and lighting fires, lots and lots of fires. In fact, you€™ll spend most of your time just lighting fires; lighting fires to clear away obstacles, lighting fires to kill specific enemies and lighting fires just for want of something else to do. The story is uninteresting and the enemies don€™t vary enough. Worse still, there€™s almost no attempt to build atmosphere or create a sense of tension. For the most part, the game just functions like a typical action adventure, just with lots and lots of fire. You€™ll jump cars over burning rubble, you€™ll watch lots of stuff blow up, and at no point will you find yourself even remotely scared or unnerved. Play Instead: Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
