15 Iconic Video Games That Almost Turned Out Completely Different

1. Grand Theft Auto Was Called Race N' Chase And Was Multiplayer-Only

It's no big secret that when DMA Design (now Rockstar North) were looking for backers for what would turn into GTA III, they couldn't get attention for love nor money - assumedly down to the game's controversial subject matter and then-unproven open-world structure. However, an even more shocking twist in the tale is the game wasn't even called that at all, instead the multiplayer-only Destruction Derby/Micro Machines-style Race n' Chase was the leading title, a game where you'd focus on bashing the living hell out of your opponents whilst dealing with some cops who inhabited the areas you were in. A bug later in development saw the cops consistently ram you into oblivion, giving the devs a eureka moment as they realised a game centred around evading the cops and doing missions for the criminal underworld could be a rather big hit. They were unequivocally, ridiculously and stupendously right. Are there any we missed off that deserve a mention? Let us know in the comments and join the Facebook page for more!
