15 Mind-Blowing Facts About The PS2

14. Free Online Play

Another nice addition to the hardware for the PS2, an official network adaptor was released which enabled gamers to play a whole host of titles online against people around the world, as well as their friends.

Later versions of the console were released with the adaptor built into the machine, which greatly heightened the appeal. Sony had bigger plans for internet gaming than the PS2 was capable of, and it wasn't really until the PS3 was released that those ambitions started to bear fruit.

Even so, some titles for the Playstation 2, including Socom 3, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and even Timesplitters Future Perfect all had excellent online communities, opening up a new range of possibilities for developers. Better yet, playing online was free with the PS2.
