14. Eggman Was Always Dr. Robotnik's Real Name

Western fans were suitably horrified when Sonic Adventure launched in 2001, as the formerly badass-sounding Dr. Robotnik was now 'Dr. Eggman'. However, this was always the case in both Sonic's home country of Japan, and in Eastern territories.

Back in the early 90s, Sega were positively determined to crack the western demographic, and (justifiably) they just didn't think teens would respond to the latter's more humorous-sounding surname. It was changed to accommodate, working perfectly - only for A decade-later rethink to assess that they should have global brand unity, reversing the name back to how it 'should' have always been.
