6. Nightmare Levels - Max Payne

Again, maybe we all should have expected this? A broken man, experiencing echoes of his dead family everywhere, especially after the level before it; a gothic nightclub ran by druggie cult-enthusiasts babbling on Cthulu, Loki and Satan. Alas, that level is more of a warm-up for what's to come.

If you weren't irritated by the never-ending mazes, you were disrupted and disturbed by the puzzling layout, the blood-curdling screams, the actual blood laid out like a trail to follow with a crying baby scoring it. It's a real messed up window to gaze through into Max's psyche. And if you were to fall off that blood trail in the console version... yeesh.

When it's over, there's a sigh of relief... until you do it again later in the game but much worse
