15 Most Underrated Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
10. Enslaved: Odyssey To The West
Recently included on this Best Plot Twists of the Decade piece, Ninja Theory's second game (can you believe they achieved this so early?) was another Hollywood-style tale fronted by Andy 'Gollum' Serkis alongside newcomer Lindsey Shaw, and honestly quite like Heavenly Sword, it really should've been played by far more people.
Where HS basically took Devil May Cry/God of War's combat and did little with it, Enslaved is a far more cinematic, narratively-driven affair. Put simply, the performance capture for Serkis' Monkey and Shaw's Trip are exemplary, with the Cambridge-centred studio knowing exactly how to direct some masterful cutscenes packed with emotional beats along the way.
Gameplay is a mix of explorative platforming and third-person melee combat - complete with kill-cam finishers - but it's seeing the Alex Garland co-penned story through to its climax that's the real hook here. Just imagine The Last of Us in a more lighthearted sci-fi setting with an entirely new world of gizmos and lore, and you're almost there.
