15 Resurrected Video Game Franchises That Should Stay Dead

14. Alone In The Dark

The Originals: 1992's Alone in the Dark didn't just kickstart its own line of successful horror games: without it, there probably wouldn't be Resident Evil or Silent Hill. The series was rebooted for the first time in 2001 with the solid The New Nightmare, and once again in 2008 with the simple title Alone in the Dark, which was financially successful despite heavily mixed notices from critics. The Resurrection: You'd be forgiven for not knowing, but the series was rebooted for a third time this past summer, with Alone in the Dark: Illumination re-imagining the franchise as an online multiplayer game. Shockingly, the game was panned, scoring a hilarious 18 on Metacritic. Why It Needs To Stay Dead: Because most fans of the better games lost interest a long time ago, and it really seems like the series is hanging on by a financial thread at this point. Surely after three reboots that were modestly successful at best, a fourth really isn't going to do much better. People are just over this series, so please, let it die.
